Author's Description:
I began shooting Botanical Collection No. 3 in October, 2008. I had spent a lot of time following up with the Just Before Now Collection, working on my Etsy gallery, and creating my first WordPress blog for the studio. By the time I picked up the camera, I was eager and ready to shoot again, and I felt my ideas for what I wanted for this collection were developed.
The delphinium photographs, the first photographs I made that day, are what I remember from this collection. Within them, I was able to begin to visualize the movement, the story, that each of these botanical blossoms choreographed with us throughout the day, the week, the year. I became more aware and focused on the movement of each stem and each petal. The gestures I saw became the focus of my work, and now comprise a majority of my photography, leading me to see a photograph much differently than before.

On display in Botanical Collection No. 3 is a vision of stillness and movement seen through the beauty, elegance, and gracefulness of natural shapes and forms. Botanical Collection No. 3, a diverse collection of digital still photography, uses negative space along with a 3-point lighting scheme to study a small selection of botanicals: the Gerbera daisy, the delphinium, and the globe artichoke (a thistle). The images create a stunning visual identity for the flowers while exploring principles of value and transition.
