Author's Description:
Picking up where I left off in Botanical Collection No. 2, I shot parts of Far From the Tide while compiling the aforementioned collection. I split Far From The Tide into two parts. One, with a dark background and compelling shadows to draw on mood, and one using a reflective white background, with texture and contrast creating the storyline.
I don’t know what I was thinking about, if anything, while I photographed these pieces. I think I wanted to treat this collection as a secret. You know when you have secrets to keep, or you know someone has a secret, or there are things you have to keep secret, and you think of them differently. So, when I was shooting the frames for this, I had these scenes on my mind like secrets and as I composed each one, I’d make an image and move on, breaking down the scene and setting up the next one.
The collection was about my habit of collecting these damaged, abandoned shelters and how we all collect and carry these textures far away from their home. The seashells were collected after Hurricane Francis churned through Tampa Bay.
